Death and revival

Death has a price. Your team pays it with you.

In vanilla hardcore, one death ends the game. Liminal turns it into a game about responsibility: every death costs something, and only your team can bring you back.

Lives and hearts

Every death costs a life and a permanent heart. Neither comes back on its own.

The Liminal

A dead player isn't out of the game. They wait in a world between until a teammate revives them.

Graves

Your items stay in a grave where you fell. A waypoint leads you and your faction back to it.

Revive Totems

Craft one to bring a fallen teammate back to life.

Classes, skills and magic

Fighter, Archer or Mage.

Every class has three paths. The Archer becomes a Marksman, Trapper or Steward, the Fighter a Tank, Berserker or Paladin. The G menu shows your skills, one page per class and path, with a mana bar and an ability bar on the HUD.

  • Nine shared abilities per class, paths up to tier 5
  • Mana bar and ability bar placed anywhere on the HUD
  • Every menu in three looks: Runestone, Ledger, Driftwood

Pets that level up

From puppy to level 20 companion.

Dogs, cats, parrots and mounts gain experience and unlock perks along the way: Second Wind, Crippling Bite, Morning Gift, Lookout, Sure-footed, Fireproof and Last Breath.

  • Each pet has a favourite food, and some foods make it sick
  • Trust, fetch with a stick, and roaming in its own patch
  • Dogs of different owners walk up and say hello
Factions and waypoints

Your banner, your land, your team.

Found a faction with your banner as its mark, invite players and claim land. Waypoints work without a minimap: a beacon beam in your colour and a marker you can see through blocks.

  • H faction menu · B set a waypoint · U the list
  • Share waypoints with nobody, your faction or everyone
  • With Xaero's World Map installed, territories and waypoints show on the map

Longboats and a longship

Twelve at the oars.

The longboat with three seats, or two seats and a chest, in every kind of wood. The longship: twelve seats, a helmsman, five rowing benches, two chests and a sail that fills as it moves. Heavy and slow to turn, as it should be.

  • Everything is built at the Shipwright's Table
  • Lantern, pennant, shields, a dragon head, your faction's banner at the stern or on the sail
  • Or a sail of your own design
Bosses

Corvus, the Hollow Raven.

A crow-headed reaper with a scythe, wings and a tattered cloak. He flies in, lands, and fights in two phases: at half health his rage parts grow, he turns red and starts leaping at you. His attacks land on the frame the blade hits, so you can learn to dodge them.

Menus and HUD

Three looks, your colours.

Every menu comes as Runestone, Ledger or Driftwood, picked under pause menu › Edit menus. In the HUD editor you move every element, resize it or switch it off.

Season 1

A world of its own. A town. An arena.

Season 1 brings a pre-built map with a town as the starting point, factions competing for land and influence, trade routes with carriages, and a colosseum for minigames and PvP. What else waits out in the world stays secret until launch.

  • Landing zones around the town, and from there you head out
  • An arena with its own game modes: free for all, red versus blue
  • Moto Coin as the currency, with a market and a bank in town
